Educational Requirements
There are no educational prerequisites to apply for a contractor license in California.
If you face challenges in reading, you might be permitted to bring a pre-approved reader to the exam.
If special accommodations are needed during the examination, you could request these to CSLB.
Those whose primary language isn't English, have the option to bring a pre-approved translator for the exam.
Experience Requirements
To qualify for the examination, you need a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the specific trade you're applying for.
This experience should have been acquired within the recent 10 years.
If you don't have the required experience, another person, known as a 'qualifying individual', can represent you if they possess the necessary skills and experience.
To be a licensed contractor, you must be at least 18 years old and have an ITIN or a Social Security number.
